Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef, 80/20
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 cup of mushrooms, sliced
- 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of paprika
- 1 teaspoon of dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of beef broth
- 1 cup of milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper. Use your hands to mix everything together until it's just combined.
- Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal parts and shape each part into a patty. Make sure they're not too thick, as they'll puff up a bit in the oven.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the beef patties for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they're nicely browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside on a plate.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter. Once melted, add the sliced mushrooms and cook until they're softened and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
- Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly. This will help thicken the gravy.
- Gradually pour in the beef broth and milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until it thickens to your liking.
- Return the beef patties to the skillet and spoon some of the gravy over each patty. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the patties are cooked to your desired level of doneness.
